  1. I went to the involvement fair with my roommate Natalie at around 4:30. We walked around to all of the tables and I did sign up for one club. I signed up for the fishing club, which is called Hooked on UNE. They meet bi-weekly and we learn how to tie lures, and we go fishing every here and there. I love fishing so I think this will be a very fun club for me. I got to spin this wheel and I won a Spinner lure which is really cool because I use them all the time. Nothing else really interested me but my roommate signed up for UNE players which is theatre.

  2. The Student Involvement Fair was a very interesting experience. There were many clubs that were trying to “recruit” you, but there was not enough time to stop at each table. Walking by a table and not stopping to ask questions and learn more about the club made me feel kind of bad because they obviously took a lot of time in planning everything for their individual club. But, a couple of clubs did catch my attention and I made sure to stop by their table. The first one was the University of New England Partners for World Health Student Chapter. This club at first didn’t catch my attention, but the students at the table started to wave me down and of course I couldn’t walk away. So, I ended up going over and listening to what they had to say. What they do is basically collect medical supplies and distribute the supplies to countries in need. The second organization that interested me was the Student Philanthropy Association. I decided to stop by their table because they looked very inviting. The club actually seemed pretty interesting because they help connect current students at UNE to alumni as a resource for us students. I thought this was interesting because my dad is a UNE alumnus. They also give back to the UNE community which is a great addition. Overall, I learned a lot about different clubs and organizations at UNE during the Student Involvement Fair, but these two were the ones that were the most interesting to me.

  3. I’ve been a one trick pony most of my life when reffering to activities outside the classroom, which is why I thought attending the Student Involvement Fair would be a good experience for me. Two clubs caught my attention right away, each of which I’m going to look into a bit more. I know I’ll always have my good friends on the hockey team, but I’d also love to meet some new people in the fishing club and EMT club.
About two years ago, I had a handful of teammates who were really into fishing back home; mostly Midwest kids. To my surprise, I really enjoyed it. Joining the fishing club would give me a chance to expand my fishing knowledge. We would go saltwater fishing, fly fishing, fishing out on boats, and I’d be catching fish I’ve never caught before. Along with that, it would be a great way to get away from school and hockey and just relieve some stress, think about nothing but catching fish.
Both my aunts are EMT’s and never stop telling me about how much they love it, which is a big reason why I’m very interested in the EMT club. The best part about it is that it requires zero EMT experience, and I’d be able to work my way to the top by earning my EMT certificate. This club sounds a little bit more time consuming than the fishing club, and it may interfere with hockey, but also sounds much more rewarding. On the job, shifts would be twelve hours, from 7-7, and as a newcomer I’d be getting a great hands-on experience by shadowing someone who really knows what they’re doing. In the end, if I do well enough, I can also earn a scholarship to get my EMT certificate. Joining this club will really help me expand my horizon, and give me a look into a point of view I’ve never actually witnessed, just heard about.

  4. I ended up attending the Student Involvement Fair with one of my roommates, Eliza. We had a great time, although all the clubs and organizations seemed overwhelming at first. We took our time, made our first stop at a Christain Organization solely for the ‘Holy Donuts’ which were delicious despite the fact that I had to sacrifice mine to a swarm of bees. Which, ironically, brought us to our next stop at a bee-keeper club. I did sign up– I was peer pressured by my bee-obsessed roommate. We continued to walk around and pop in at random tables, I ended up signing up for Best Buddies (an organization where you can mentor intellectually disabled students), a Veterinarian Club, TONS of environmentally focalized clubs, The Student Philanthropy Association, Recreational Hockey, the Art Club, and Outdoor Activities (I forget the exact name). I have no clue how I will make time for all of these, but I am eager to get involved and make a positive impact in any way possible. I am most excited about the Veterinarian Club because, from what I was told, it’s based in a local animal shelter. There is nothing that I love more than hands-on experience. The people that were running it brought a dog with whom I immediately became obsessed. Hopefully that explains my ‘proof of attendance picture’ which was taken by Eliza.

  5. As I attended the Student Involvement Fair, I had some pre existing interests in some clubs here at UNE. For one, I love sports so I was excited to see all of the different clubs relating to sports. After a full lap around the fair, I made my way to the intramural sports table. There I saw mostly all of the activities that interested me. Flag football was something I played a lot of throughout my youth and in high school, me and my friends made a club team. I will definitely be signing up so I can relive my glory days. Another intramural activity that interests me is 3v3 basketball. Basketball was a big activity for me and my friend in the years past, it always got ridiculously serious. I think the constant competitiveness is what made me and all of my friends so close. My roommates and I have been friends since high school, so we plan on making our own team. Although those are really the only “clubs” I would be interested in, it was very cool to go around and explore the different clubs and activities available here. Some clubs I found interesting, but did not feel so inclined to join would be the surf club, the gaming club, and the rugby team. My reason for not joining rugby is pretty simple, I don’t want to die. Surfing club also sounds very cool, but I am pretty sure there are no surfable waves up here. As for the gaming club, the crowd around the table really pushed me away. I am sure more interests will come to me during my time here at UNE, but for now, the Involvement Fair introduced me to some things I might be interested in.

  6. On Friday September 2, a few of my friends and I attended the club fair from 4-6 on campus. I saw such a large variety of clubs and organizations for all different hobbies and academics. There were tons of students attending, leaving, and coming between the timeframes. I was only there for about 45 minutes because I had class until 4:50 on Friday. It did not take me too much time to join a club because I love the gym and about a week ago, they created a weightlifting club. On top of that, I thought about joining an intermural soccer club because I played all four years at my high school, but I figured I could join at any time. There were all diverse types of clubs such as Ocean club, EMS club, fishing club, and a club for every academic study! Everyone who was at the club stand seemed so inviting and excited to recruit new members to their clubs. My friends joined at least one club which was awesome. I believe having the opportunity to join and create new clubs is amazing and can bring an entire community together is a new way.

  7. Student club fair joined quite a few clubs at the involvement fair. I knew I wanted to join the fishing club before I got to the fair. I love fishing and want to go ice fishing, and the fishing club offers that. I brought my rod with me but haven’t had time to go out yet. I won a bass lewer at the table. I also joined the outing club, also known as the trailblazing club. They offer so many exciting experiences. I’m planning on attending the white water rafting outing. I am already a part of the UNE dance team, a club sport. I’ve danced since I was three and figured I’d try it. I also joined the surfing club. I’ve been surfing since about second grade and I want to get back into it. Im trying to figure out a place to put my board so I don’t have to rent one from the school. I also joined the ski club. I’ve been skiing once and Im not very good. But I had so much fun on my high school ski trip I figured I would do it again.

  8. I walked around the club fair and surprisingly there weren’t as many clubs as I though there was. I joined club field hockey and convinced two of my friends to do it with me too. I’ve played since seventh grade, and I love it but just didn’t want to join varsity for the time commitment. I was also looking for the rock-climbing club because I was told there was one however, I couldn’t find a table for it. I do hope to join the rock-climbing club at some point as I love to rock climb. I’m excited to outdoor climb as I have only done it once. I’ve been indoor rock climbing since I was about 12 through a program called On Belay. I am also interested in maybe joining the fishing club. Although I am a bit skeptical in joining, I want to push myself to do things that are out of my comfort zone. My grandfather taught me how to fish when I was four years old, and I’ve loved it ever since. I feel as though I need to limit myself on clubs due to the amount of time I have. I don’t want to overload my schedule to where I am too stressed out. I also want to ensure that I have enough time to complete my schoolwork as that takes priority. Ultimately, I definitely plan to play club field hockey and possibly rock-climbing club.

  9. On Thursday my friend and I attended the student involvement fair with two of our other friends after our class. Since our class got out late, we only had an hour to walk around and look at the clubs. There were a few we were interested in, for example ski club and cheerleading but we didn’t end up signing up. After walking around for a bit, we did end up signing up for one club that is run by our floors RA. He explained to us how signing up for the club can be used towards our volunteer hours, the club consists of gathering medical supplies and bringing them to foreign countries that can’t afford them. He then explained to us how the leader was originally a nursing student here and because of the club got the experience to travel. Then we went to the UNE fitness table where they had the schedule of all the different workouts they have throughout the week. My friends and I were already talking about wanting to join the fitness classes here so going and talking to the instructors of the class was a cool experience. Then on our way out we entered in a raffle for concert tickets and flex dollars if we followed their UNE Instagram. We did not end up taking a selfie, but I did take a picture of my friend.

  10. At 4:00 pm I went to the student involvement fair and I signed up for multiple clubs but there are only one or two that I will consider looking in to. The most interesting clubs I noticed were the Bolt, bird watching club, rugby club and the fishing club. The bolt needed a kind of reporter for the football team. They Offered to let me run interviews, film highlights and write articles. I’m not sure if I will end up doing it because it sounds very time consuming on top of my other work I have to get done. The bird club let me hold a bunch of dead birds. It was weird but at the same time it was interesting because i never realized how soft they were or how light they were. Rugby Club sounded cool but I just do not see myself attending.

  11. I attended the Student Involvement Fair on Thursday, September 2nd. I stayed at the fair for about a half an hour and walked around the Commons Lawn with my friends. The first club I joined was the outing club. I really wanted to join this club because I really want to try new things and meet new people. I figured that joining a club that goes to new places every week to go hiking, skiing, and rock climbing would be a great way to make new friends and try new things. I also liked how all of the equipment I would need would be provided by the school so I will not have to pay for anything extra.
I also joined the Rotary Club, which is basically an Interact Club at the college level. I am super excited for this club because I was part of Interact for all of my four years of high school. In high school we did community service for the school and town, and I also did a service trip to Puerto Rico. I am excited to do the same in college and help make a difference in this community. I also signed up for Panera rewards so I can get discounts on my Flex Dollars. Panera is my favorite restaurant of all time. Lastly, me and my roommate are going to join intramural volleyball during the winter season. She is actually really good, but I am so bad at volleyball. We are going to do it for fun, to make friends, and to stay in shape when it starts to get cold out and we will be less active. I am super excited to join clubs at UNE in the upcoming weeks.

  12. After my last set of classes on September second, I met with a few girls that live across the hall and we went to the student involvement fair together. There we circled the tables around the common lawn a few times and spread out towards what interested each of us most. I headed towards the dance team table and could speak to a few of the girls on the team and meet the team’s captains. I also learned the information on how to audition and sign up for the team, which I will get to do on Sunday, September 11th. As for the other clubs I checked out, I talked with the people at the ocean club, and anthropology club, and although I do not know much about either the people who ran the clubs and what crowd they brought together are what captured my attention. That’s what I truly liked most about going o the fair was seeing everyone’s common interests and looking at the faces of people who knew they would find a club or sport where they can be themselves and fit in somewhere in an environment that can sometimes make you feel lonely or shut out.

  13. I went to the student involvement fair on September 2nd with both of my roommates to see what kinds of clubs UNE has to offer. We walked around and looked at all of the tables, and even signed up for a few clubs! I signed up for the volleyball and tennis club sports teams, and one of my roommates signed up for volleyball with me as well. There were a lot more clubs available that I didn’t even know UNE offered, so it was really cool to see all the different kinds of clubs there were. At the last minute I also made my roommate sign up for club tennis with me even though she has never played tennis, so that should be interesting as well.
